January has been a month of extreme weather contrasts. Some days, 10 degree's plus and feeling quite warm considering it's winter ! No sign of snow early in the month but it's leaving us with a chilly, snowy blast as the month ends.
There have been some wonderful sunrises with a nip in the air.
As always I have been checking the weather and conditions to get out and capture some shots. Winter light is low and on a good day brightens up the landscapes into a glowing warmth. On the other hand I have been looking for some snow to fall, it wouldn't seem like winter without capturing a few snowy shots !!
Aviemore and Loch Morlich provided some much waited for white stuff with clear skies and white snowy hills. We had a good day there exploring round Loch Morlich. The funicular railway to the mountains is closed this year.....a bit of a blow for the skiers and tourism I'd imagine.
We had a great hike in the upper reaches of Strathconon.....one of my favourite Glens. The weather was mixed, snow, sun, rain, and wind.....four seasons in one day ! The deer were plentiful down low off the hillsides. It's wonderful to see them grouped together intently watching us passing by !
As we approach February the garden already has signs of growth ! Daffodils are almost ready to bloom, buds are appearing on the shrubs and bushes.
I guess January came in like a lamb but is leaving us like a Lion !!
