It's March, it's chilly and winter is dragging it's feet. About this time of year I am yearning for brighter nights and at least a slight heat from the sun.
There are a few things to look forward to this month, clocks going forward and a photography outing to Reraig Forest.
I decided to set myself a wee challenge. I want to try some different photography other than landscapes.....which, don't worry, will always be my first love. I bought an 85mm manual focus lens with the intention of trying some portrait photography.
It's a whole new learning curve for me....mastering manual focus and learning about portraiture. It' a whole new experience and one that will take much practising. My beautiful granddaughter makes a good subject !
The weather is fairly good for March. We've had nice sunny days albeit a wee bit chilly still. I have visited some of the towns on the Black Isle. Cromarty, Avoch and Fortrose. The all have interesting things to photograph
In Cromarty I had a days shooting in black and white. The oil platforms and rigs lend themselves to monochrome work. Cromarty is a good place for photography having the oil industry side of things and of course the pretty town with all its wee whitewashed houses.

The visit to Reraig for our photography day out with the keeper there was magnificent. We were met in Lochcarron village by Colin Murdoch, the keeper of Reraig Estates. He took us to his large shed where we piled aboard the argocat to head into the hills.
I was nervous ! Having a fear of heights and perched in an argo !! but I need not have worried one bit....it was fantastic with Colin at the helm. His deer herd are beautiful magnificent red deer stags and hinds. Colin has a real passion for his herd and for the landscape.
He was so informative and knowledgeable and great fun ! A real gentleman telling us funny stories too.
I got some fantastic shots of the stags with great backdrops looking across to the Beach na Ba. The weather was kind to us too. Great for landscapes, snow showers on the hills, clouds, sun, blue skies, sort of typical all 4 seasons in a day weather !! great for landscape photography.
As March is drawing to a close thoughts are on our holiday to Iceland at the start of April. We were in Iceland last year but it's such an amazing country we are returning, there is so much to explore.
So, I best get the case out and get packing !!
In April I will have news of our Icelandic adventures.
