November Dawn, Tarbat Ness, Portmahomack

It’s November already and although it’s been a difficult year, in many ways it seems to have flown past. Fortunately the first week this month still had some great colours clinging to the trees and landscapes. The bracken is a beautiful russet colour swathing the landscape in a rich hue. Out local Evanton wood still provided lots of colour especially on the forest floor where all the fallen leaves look like an autumnal carpet of glorious colour.
As autumn fades I start thinking of some different locations for photography and some dawn photography. Sunrise is later so not too bad to haul myself from under the cosy duvet !! Of course I check the weather and choose a location suitable for the beautiful dawn light and sometimes even with all the weather checks sunrise just doesn’t quite happen as you’d expect. Tarbat Ness is a great spot to watch the day unfold armed with not only my camera gear but a flask of hot coffee !
This month has also been very good for morning mist. Mist adds so much atmosphere to an image and we have had some fantastic misty days which I’ve made good use of and captured some pleasing images.
Colours in the landscape change in winter but the low sun can create stunning light.
I love old croft houses and cottages so I have been searching old and new maps looking for such buildings. I have found a few, not far from home which I want to photograph over the next month or two when good weather allows. I like a wee challenge ! and to capture images of days gone by.
I have added a new selection of images to my gallery called MAGICAL FORESTS Some of our beautiful Highland Forests which I create using a slight soft focus to give a magical look. Hope you enjoy!
